That's the way I always played the game and that's what I respect most in other athletes.

With that in mind, I give you the final 20 seconds of the women's 3200 meter race at Ohio's 2012 State track meet.

One competitor collapses from complete muscle fatigue, and her competitor - about to finish last in the race unless she passes her ailing foe - stops and carries her across the finish line.

I'm always keyed up this time of year as E3 hits full stride.

My fave trailer and gameplay demo so far has to be from Watch Dogs by Ubisoft. It's a little bit Person of Interest, a little bit Bourne Identity... both good things. The atmospherics are outstanding, the cutscenes seamless and the mood and depth are engrossing.

Be warned, the language and violence in the gameplay clip are very mature. If you're listening/watching at work, headphones are mandatory.

Blog:22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost:7b32a246-3fe9-4cad-9348-ba6929a99378 Want to be inspired? http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/blogs/daily-dig/?plckController=Blog&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&UID=22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456a&plckPostId=Blog%3a22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost%3a2fb4864d-1d7f-49e3-a0ee-fbbe98e5490d&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest Fri, 01 Jun 2012 17:00:00 GMT
It's been a terrible week for the faith-in-humanity meter. New kinds of horror unveiled, murders and mayhem that make you question our collective sanity.

And of course we've all heard the stories that the latest generation of young people is self-centered, cruel, narcissistic etc. OK, some are. But not all. You want proof? Look no further than this track and field day video.

Not all are cruel. Not all hope is lost. We can do this.

I've been a fan of the IdeaMensch site since they interviewed me for a profile last year. OK, that was a joke. I've been a fan for a lot longer than that.

The latest feature is on Max Dubinsky, a brilliant writer who had to fight through doubt and adversity, and a guy who went on a life-changing road trip and wrote about it.

His quote at the top of the feature is worth keeping.

"Fail, and keep failing. It means you’re trying."

It's hard to accept failure, regardless of the lessons learned or the ground gained. But it's wise to remember that effort, faith and hope are everything. Outcome is secondary, and if successful, a bonus.

Happy weekend.
Blog:22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost:2fb4864d-1d7f-49e3-a0ee-fbbe98e5490d Les Mis movie trailer scores http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/blogs/daily-dig/?plckController=Blog&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&UID=22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456a&plckPostId=Blog%3a22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost%3af52b52d7-9af0-490a-95c5-9a0eb836bca3&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest Wed, 30 May 2012 16:03:00 GMT
It's rare that a movie trailer knocks me off of my morning web routines, but the new Les Mis promo sure packs a punch.

We have to wait until December to see the actual movie, but as one commenter said on YouTube, it just means we can watch the trailer 1,000 times until then.

<A data-cke-saved-href="http://www.bing.com/videos/browse?mkt=en-us&vid=aa88f4cc-9d41-43e4-8ad3-186317750e2b&from=shareembed-syndication&src=v5:embed:syndication:" href="http://www.bing.com/videos/browse?mkt=en-us&vid=aa88f4cc-9d41-43e4-8ad3-186317750e2b&from=shareembed-syndication&src=v5:embed:syndication:" target="_new" title="'Les Miserables' movie trailer">Video: 'Les Miserables' movie trailer</A>

God bless Graham Norton and the BBC. I love it when people say that,” said Jeff Moriarty, vice president of digital products at the Globe. Moriarity developed Globe Lab and says newspapers and all media have to work closely with technologists. “We’re competing to hire people who would work at Google or at some other place,” Moriarty said. “So we have to try to create an environment that spurs creativity and innovation.”

This is a brilliant way to keep innovation top of mind, and motivate the big thinkers in the organization to stay sharp.

The Globe has long been at the forefront of digital big-thinking and cutting-edge innovation. Several used words that would be blocked in our comment forum. (To quote Community, they were “caring loudly at me.”)

If you are one of the annoyed, I have good news for you: you can now “dock” the widget between the story and the comments. You’ll still be able to get easily to the next or previous story, but nothing will be sliding, popping or moving.

When you dock the widget, we’ll remember you prefer it docked, so you won’t have to do it again on the same device (as long as you are not in private-browsing mode and have not cleared your cache).

And if you dock the widget and find yourself nostalgic for the good ol’ days when the next story zoomed in from the right, just hit “undock” to return to slide-in box format.

We hope you like the change.

In other site-tweaking news: We’ve added a ‘Featured Commenter’ badge to our roster of user-generated-content rewards.

It is a manually awarded feature, given to those who use their real identities or who consistently engage in meaningful discussions in the comments widget.

We’re hoping to tie it in to an automated real-identity verification process in the future. The idea is to reward those who use their real identities with higher placement in the widget.

Interestingly, some have said they do not want the badge and featured placement, because it might build resentment toward their persona. What do you think?

Additionally, you may have noticed the ‘Reactions’ bar at the bottom of stories. This is your chance to give your emotional response to a story. You can post your reaction, and share that on your social networks to further engage your friends and followers.

Once again, this has elicited strong feedback on both sides of the fence… some think it’s a great addition to the UGC toolkit, others think the ability to react with “Ha!” at the end of a serious story is a major flaw. Share your opinion in our comments below – as the changes to our last/next widget demonstrate, we are listening to you.
Blog:22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost:9df3cdac-915d-4729-9335-f5667827e2d3 Pick up a Pebble http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/blogs/daily-dig/?plckController=Blog&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&UID=22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456a&plckPostId=Blog%3a22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost%3ae1c3be49-65ee-4d0d-97b8-934cc5f25464&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest Mon, 16 Apr 2012 17:52:00 GMT
I can't remember the last time I wore a watch.

I have a vague memory of a neon yellow Swatch with a rubber band protector over the glass face in the '80s ony my wrist for a time, if you will.

That all ended once the venerable cell phone entered my life. Did it make you think of the fans left behind? Was it something for Bettman?

Believe me, I understand the feelings involved, and the need to vent. I don't recall any protests in Winnipeg during those NHL pre-season games.

What would you do in this situation?

The only throwing going on in this next video involves noodles.

It's always good to have friends in high places.

And finally, this gem from XKCD on those of us who become default IT directors for our friends and family.

I snorted coffee out of my nose when I saw this for the first time.

Blog:22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost:5af5961f-c858-4cab-8a75-a574fbdfe976 Fight night at MSG http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/blogs/daily-dig/?plckController=Blog&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&UID=22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456a&plckPostId=Blog%3a22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost%3a3d24cab5-3bf1-492c-b1be-a43d44b597eb&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest Tue, 20 Mar 2012 13:01:00 GMT
After their last game against the New Jersey Devils in which many New York Rangers players said they were "trying to kill us" the Rangers matched the goon line sent out by the Devils for the opening faceoff.

You kind of knew something would happen.

Well, how about three fights starting before the puck hit the ice?

This clip has been making the rounds, but is so fantastic that it's worth sharing here.

NASA released this sound-enhanced version of a space shuttle launch, from cameras mounted on the rocket boosters.

Make sure to have your headphones ready, and maybe some Gravol.

And finally, for some inspiration this morning, a Grade 4 girl overcomes her fear of the 30 metre ski jump and nails the landing.

If her celebration after she demonstrates her ability to forge ahead despite high anxiety doesn't compel you to kick butt today, I can't help you further.

Blog:22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost:3d24cab5-3bf1-492c-b1be-a43d44b597eb March Madness that I can relate to http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/blogs/daily-dig/?plckController=Blog&plckBlogPage=BlogViewPost&UID=22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456a&plckPostId=Blog%3a22c45997-5abc-42b0-ab9c-3e4e9242456aPost%3a5a749ac7-a4bf-4cb7-afed-6de9618b053e&plckScript=blogScript&plckElementId=blogDest Fri, 16 Mar 2012 16:46:00 GMT
All this talk of March Madness reminds me that I'm in no way interested in college basketball.
